She had to get creative and reuse some things because of rationing, shortages and high levels of unemployment following the Second World War. Boiled potatoes were transformed into a poor man’s marzipan, and although the youngest in the family could sit for hours looking dreamily in this year’s Christmas catalogue from Daells Varehus, the presents under the Christmas tree were homemade. The decorations as well. Experience Christmas in a time of rationing in the small apartment and in the shopping street on the first floor of the exhibition The 1950s. ♦️Make your own Christmas jingle elf Settle into the workshop and cut your own traditional paper elf. A jumping figure with string and paperclip costs 15 DKK. Imagination and immersion are included, especially if you take the time for a cutting session at the museum. ♦️Café & Beer Hall’s popular Christmas table Our historic restaurant is serving up a great Danish Christmas dinner, offering you everything your heart desires. Classic open sandwiches in small portions, warm Christmas favourites such as tartlets, Christmas herring, organic pork roast and so much more. Of course, there’s also traditional rice pudding on the table.
