During Christmas you can experience:

All days:

♦️ Christmas in exhibition The 1950s – the home-made Christmas

lys – storIn the 2-room apartment, the diligent housewife has been putting up decorations for Christmas according to the designs of the time. She had to get creative and reuse some things because of rationing, shortages and high levels of unemployment following the Second World War. Boiled potatoes were transformed into a poor man’s marzipan, and although the youngest in the family could sit for hours looking dreamily in this year’s Christmas catalogue from Daells Varehus, the presents under the Christmas tree were homemade. The decorations as well.

Experience Christmas in a time of rationing in the small apartment and in the shopping street on the first floor of the exhibition The 1950s.

♦️Make your own Christmas jingle elf

sprællemand – mellem

Settle into the workshop and cut your own traditional paper elf. A jumping figure with string and paperclip costs 15 DKK. Imagination and immersion are included, especially if you take the time for a cutting session at the museum.

♦️Café & Beer Hall’s popular Christmas table

Our historic restaurant is serving up a great Danish Christmas dinner, offering you everything your heart desires. Classic open sandwiches in small portions, warm Christmas favourites such as tartlets, Christmas herring, organic pork roast and so much more. Of course, there’s also traditional rice pudding on the table. Remember to book well in advance – See more on the Beer Hall’s website

♦️Delicacies in the Coffee Bar

Enjoy hot cocoa or a cup of coffee with Rich’s in the 50’s Coffee Bar, and let yourself be tempted by the Christmas treats – Do you prefer gingerbread or the small, crispy Christmas cookies? Or how about a nice mulled wine with warm, so-called Danish apple fritters? Also get a taste of poor man’s marzipan, such as it was made in the 1950s because almonds were rationed.

♦️Do your Christmas shopping in the store

Christmas calendars, climbing elfs, drums for the tree, poinsettias, advent candles, Christmas gifts and toys for the little ones. Come and make a Christmas find in our cosy shop. 🌲
