Fall break – for families 🤸

Take the Family on an Adventure in the 1950s

Spend your autumn holiday with the whole family as working children in the 1950s, enjoying homemade toys, a holiday camp, and a sense of community.

You can try fun activities with a ’50s vibe, visit the Hansen family’s apartment, which is exactly as it was back then, and take a stroll down the main street, which has completely different shops than we know today. Everyone can gather in the café to quench their thirst with a red soda like working children in the ’50s.

Entry and activities are free for children throughout week 42.

Program:

🌟 Make Your Own Rag Doll and Banner

Time: 10:00 AM – 4:30 PM
Recommended Age: 6+

Use your hands and creativity to be inspired by the working children of the 1950s, who made their own rag dolls from old fabric scraps and balls of yarn. If you have a lot to say, you can settle down in the special exhibition “Women’s Lives“, where you can create a banner with your own message to the world.

🌟Street and Apartment from 1958

All Day
Recommended Age: 6+

In our exhibition about the 1950s, you can stroll past the many temptations of the shopping street: stylish nylon stockings, American toys, and the new technological marvel—the television. At the end of the street you can visit the Hansen family in their two-room apartment. And when a little (delicious) hunger strikes, the ’50s café is ready to serve coffee with or without Richs, red soda along with every working child’s favorite cake — biscuit cake.

🌟Explore the Children’s Workers’ Museum

All day
Recommended age: 4+

Put on your working children’s clothes and take a shift at the grocery store or go out on a delivery with a cargo bike. Or lace up your dancing shoes and stop by the dance school. At the factory, you can sort bottles at a rapid pace—and afterwards, relax at home in the small backyard apartment. Help answer the phone at the union office, jump through the hopscotch, or fill the dollhouses with paper dolls. Read more about the Childrens Workers Museum

🌟Smørrebrød og kiksekage

Hungry? Visit our cozy café to taste a traditional biscuit cake, coffee and soft drinks, or head to our restaurant, Café & Øl-halle, where every paying adult can bring one child under 12 for free to enjoy the grand smørrebrød’s buffet (the offer is valid all days except Saturday and Sunday). No one leaves hungry! Reserve a table here.
