Summer holidays and fun in the backyard Hjem // Summer holidays and fun in the backyard Menu Holiday in the museum backyard From 2nd of July 2018 – 12th of Aug Come along for great summer activities in the historical setting of the Workers Museum in the heart of Copenhagen. Experience the scenes of everyday life as well as games and working conditions for the city-youngsters in the early 1900’s. All summer activities and admission for the museum are free for kids below the age of 18. The old city backyards were a place for kids to play, walk on stilts, ride their hobby horses and jump rope. You can try out those outdoor games and activities as well as try on the clothes of a working class kid in the 1930’s. The Kids’ Workers Museum In the Kids’ Workers museum you can try working as a delivery boy or shop assistant, sort bottles at the brewery, or use a typewriter in the union office. Aside from dressing up as a backyard kid from the 1930’s you can also dress up in a sailor’s suit, dance at the dance school, play in a 1930’s flat, or visit the pawnbroker and see if you can get a few pennies for your old coat. Rhymes and ABC-fun with Halfdan the Poet In the kids exhibition Halfdan the Poet you can learn and play with letters and words by means of the work of Halfdan Rasmussen, a poet of social protest and kids nonsense known to all Danes. The exhibition revolves around one of his greatest books ‘Halfdans ABC’ that is filled with tongue-twisting, humorous, concise, limerick-style rhymes for every letter of the alphabet. The kids can play on large installations inspired by the rhymes in the book and puzzle with words and letters in a fun way. When you’re done with the games and rhymes please feel free to take a break in our 1950’s Coffee shop or eat your lunch box in the backyard. We hope to see a lot of smiling faces ready for backyard games and fun activities!
