To the Line Hjem // what’s on // Exhibitions // To the Line Menu Special exhibition Cartoonist Klaus Albrectsen uses his pencil as a weapon to confront authority, conformity and inequality. He draws the world as it is, and in his eyes, there’s not much to cheer for. His illustrations can be harsh but also life-affirming. They can be serious or funny. But they are never irrelevant because Klaus Albrectsen has never been afraid to speak his mind about the state of things. Discover almost 200 of Klaus Albrectsen’s works in a scenographic exhibition with major themes such as war, inequality, climate and abuse of power, but also about love for the creative, music and for nature. The fight for a better world Born in 1932, Klaus Albrectsen grew up during the political and economic crisis of the 1930s. His critical awareness of society and his desire to draw was already established in his childhood years. As a cartoonist of daily satire in Danish and Swedish newspapers, Klaus Albrectsen established his name as a ruthless critic of the prevailing social conditions. His illustrations are one long defence of the weak, the oppressed and the needy. But Klaus Albrectsen’s output includes so much more and so much different than biting satirical drawings. His jazz drawings, his illustrations for children’s and young people’s books and his posters for relief organisations and left-wing political parties testify in different ways to his love of music, nature, children and the ordinary man. Therefore, many of his drawings can also be perceived as calls to take a stand and fight for a better world. Vietnam, Ekstra Bladet 1968 Tjernobyl, 1986 ‘Atomkrig?
